Chapter 12

SLOANE

She clung to Nicholas, her head buried against his chest long after they’d finished. He was warm and solid and she didn’t know what to say. She didn’t want to pull away yet, either.

Pulling away meant going back to the real world. And the real world was too… chaotic and absolutely insane. Not that what she and Nicholas had just done wasn’t its own brand of insanity.

Basically her life had just taken a huge freaking leap off the insane bananas cliff and she kept waiting for it to right itself… but nope, it just went from crazy to nuts to even more fucking insane.

She’d just had sex. She was no longer a virgin. And it had been… more than she’d ever expected. After all this time, she’d sort of assumed the real thing just wouldn’t measure up. But then again, she’d never anticipated Nicholas. How could she have? He was completely unanticipatable. Nothing in her experience could have ever prepared her for the Nicholas bulldozer arriving in her life.

But he was here and apparently, there was no going back.

She was proud of herself when she finally managed the courage to twist herself up to look at his big, broadly square face. “So, what now.”

He let out a low groan and scrubbed a hand down his face. “I was trying not to think about it. Being with you lets me forget about everything.” The arm he had wrapped around her squeezed her to him, bringing their naked bodies into closer contact.

She’d been hot earlier, but his action sent a shiver down her spine. She didn’t miss the way his shaft started to harden up again at the contact. Her sex quivered and contracted at the sight in anticipation, but to her disappointment, he was soon rolling to a sitting position, pulling her with him.

They sat there, naked, side by side, and his gaze skewered hers. He reached out a hand and traced her bottom lip with his thumb. “Goddamn,” he whispered. “You’re enough to tempt any man out of his sanity.”

He leaned down and kissed her, fervently, like he’d lost track of whatever he’d been meaning to say or do next. She gave in, loving the thought of driving this man to distraction.

But he was more disciplined than her and he broke their kiss, pressing his forehead against hers and rolling it back and forth as he let out a heavy breath. “Soon I’m going to get you in bed and keep you there for days. We’ll order food in and I’ll explore every inch and crevice of you. That’s a goddamned promise.”

She blinked, shivers of anticipation hitting her in waves even as another part of her shouted, wait, wait, no. This was just a one-time thing. It was just the adrenaline and a momentary madness—

But then he was kissing her again and she knew that voice was out of its damn mind, because his kisses were drugging and she was intoxicated by him… She’d only known him a few
